The official Batman Ninja trailer has arrived! The anime has a team of experts and is set for a 2018 release. For example, the character design is getting done by Takashi Okazaki, who was responsible for Afro Samurai, and the screenplay will be written by Kazuki Nakashima (we can thank Gurren Lagen and Kill la Kill to him). The music score will be in the hands of Yugo Kanno (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Psycho-Pass), so we can expect something extraordinary on that front as well. Directed by Jumpei Mizusaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), the show is on the way to be an epic, over-the-top anime adaptation of the cult comic.

Being an isekai story, Batman, Joker, also other friends and foes (Harley Quinn, Alfred, Catwoman, the Red Hood, Robin, Two-Face, Grodd the Gorilla, and many more) get transported back to medieval Japan. Joker and other villains are on a rampage again, and without his gadgets, gear, and rides, Batman can rely only on his strong will and exceptional skills to stop his arch enemies.

Though it seems to be an epic, action-filled hit of the year, the only and also the most unfortunate thing about the series is that the whole thing seems to get the CGI animation “treatment”. This art direction appears to be a trend of the industry shifting away from hand-drawn sets and scenes, something that is not an issue, but hard to digest for fans of classic 2D style (especially for the older generations we are coming from).

Batman Ninja was first announced at New York Comic Con, and we can’t wait to check it out later this year! How about you?
