Despite the odd title of Yoru Sumino’s novel, Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai (I Want to Eat Your Pancreas) deserves all the hype around its release scheduled for the 1st of September, 2018. The story has already been adapted into both a live-action movie and a manga.

This Friday the anime adaptation's official website revealed details of new staff and main cast with Mahiro Takasugi as Boku and Lynn as Sakura Yamauchi. Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai is produced by Studio VOLN (Ushio to Tora, Idol Incidents). On top of all these exciting titbits, a trailer and key visuals got shared for the upcoming movie.

Plot summary:

A high school student acting as the narrator of the story finds his classmate's notebook, the “Disease Coexistence Journal." He learns that the journal belongs to Sakura, a girl suffering from a terminal illness in her pancreas and only has a few months left to live. Despite her illness, Sakura tries to live a regular life and coping with her disease by using humor. The boy narrator decides to learn more about Sakura and starts to spend time with her.

Kimi no Suizō o Tabetai is not just covering the topic of coping with a terminal disease but is also a coming-of-age story as the unnamed boy was also a reserved character who tried to stay away from the center of attention and before starting to spend time with Sakura. With a deep character development and a powerful message on the value of life and memories, Kimi no Suizō o Tabetai has all the chance of becoming a fantastic romance-drama that will leave fans in tears.

Yoru Sumino’s Kimi no Suizō o Tabetai has exploded regarding popularity in 2014 as over 2 million copies are in print right now. An extraordinary achievement for a work that is around for such a short time. There was also a live-action film adaptation with the same title as the novel, which premiered on July 28, 2017, and a manga adaptation illustrated by Idumi Kirihara serialized in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine between August 2016 and May 2017.

Starring:

  • Lynn as Sakura (Ena Komiya in Just Because!, Yumiko Samejima in A Place Further Than The Universe)
  • Mahiro Takasugi as the unnamed boy (Kamen Rider Ryugen in Kamen Rider Gaim)

Production staff:

  • Script writing: Shin’ichirou Ushijima (Death Parade, One Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter)
  • Animation director and character design: Yuuichi Oka (Eromanga-sensei, To Love-Ru, New Game!)
  • Soundtrack composition: Hiroko Sebu
