The highly-acclaimed and visually stunning anime, 'Made in Abyss' returns with two compilation films. The announcement was made on the official website of Made in Abyss. The first film, titled Made in Abyss: Tabidachi no Yoake (Journey’s Dawn), while the second, named Made in Abyss: Hourousuru Tasogare (Wandering Twilight) and together the two movies will recap the first season split into two parts. The films are set to be released in Japanese theaters in winter, 2018.
As a special treat, it was also announced that the anime adaptation gets an additional episode before the earlier teased second season. Unfortunately, no further information was shared on the plot or the release date of the two compilation films and the new episode.
Riko, the orphan girl, lives in a small town called Orth on an island surrounded by the sea of Beoluska. In the center of the city lies an enormous hole that expands into a system of caverns, called the Abyss. As expected, the mysterious depths of the Abyss allure treasure hunters and explores called the Cave Raiders with artifacts of great value and remnants of a civilization long gone. However, it also holds great dangers for the inexperienced descending too deep and far into the mist-filled unknown. “The Curse of the Abyss” as the fatal effect is called, prevents raiders from ascending, and only a few legendary riders titled as 'White Whistle' survived the dangerous depths. Riko wants to follow the footsteps of her mother and reveal the secrets of the Abyss. She discovers a boy robot, named Reg, and together they start their journey into the unknown cave system, despite the risk of never seeing the daylight again. Riko is determined that by descending to the bottom of the Abyss, she can meet her long-lost mother.
Akihito Tsukushi’s Made in Abyss manga started serializing in Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma website in 2012 and got collected into six tankōbon volumes. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the license to the anime adaptation of the story.
The anime adaptation of 13 episodes by studio Kinema Citrus aired in Japan between the 7th of July and 29th of September, 2017. The anime adaptation got licensed by Sentai Filmworks and was streamed on Amazon’s Prime video service in the US and on HIDIVE in other countries. The series also got licensed for the UK release by MVM Films.
